He had hoped the state would pay him $3,122 for his legal fees after a legislative committee said it was the right thing to do. But the House didn't approve the money. Although the attorney is a friend, Ray still feels obligated to pay her. "I'm going to pay her some way, even if I have to get the kids to take it out when I die," he said.
